Year 3 Sleepover!
Learning Journey: Technology and History
This has been a very busy week for our learning journey. We have learned about making switches in technology where we had to apply what we know about electricity, conductors and circuits to plan a burglar alarm! The teachers gave us some sweets, but there was a sweet burglar about and we had to create an alarm to keep our sweets safe! We also began learning about the history of electricity by creating a timeline of different electrical inventions. It was amazing to discover when the different electrical appliances were made! Do you believe that the electrical rice cooker was invented in 1939! | A really interesting BBC video about the development of electrical technology! Great for parents! |
Our Sparkling Stars of the Week!
Literacy This week in literacy, Year 4 have been learning all about non-chronological reports. We have learned the key features of reports, found out about the language that is used in the reports and read lots of examples of reports. We are now planning our own non-chronological report about electricity and are going to write this next week. In Year 3, we have finished off our learning about instructions and are now learning about book reviews. We have read some book reviews, practised putting mixed up reviews back in the correct order and even thought about how to write our own reviews. We will be carrying on with this learning next week. | Maths This week in Year 3 has been all about fractions. We remembers what fractions were, learned about different simple fractions and practised cutting up shapes into fractions. In Year 4 we have been concentrating on negative and positive numbers this week. We reviewed what we already knew about negative numbers, fount out how to calculate the difference between negative and positive numbers and then played lots of games to practise this skill. Why not have a go at this game where you need to read the thermometers? |
