IPC - An earthquake hits Phnom Penh...
Year 4
LiteracyIn Literacy this week we have been focusing on various types of grammar. We began the week by identifying plurals and practised using these. It was a bit tricky at first as there's more than one rule-adding a 's', 'es' or the irregular plurals (person = people). Later in the week we identified and practised using pronouns in our writing. We have begun to look at expanded noun phrases and will practise applying all these grammatical rules next week when we plan our own Adventure Stories. What kind of an adventure would you like to go on? | MathsThis week in Year 4 we have been using our rounding skills from last week to improve our mental maths! We learnt about the rounding strategy and have been practicing applying this when doing addition in our heads. At first we found it a bit challenging – there are a few different things we have to remember when using this strategy. However, we didn’t give up! We kept on practising and now we feel more confident! We have even moved on to adding THREE-DIGIT numbers in our heads! |
Year 3
LiteracyThis week we started our new topic, Adventure stories. In our groups we tried to explain what an adventure is and talked about adventures we have been on. Then we read the story Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs and practised retelling the story to our friends and classmates. Next we examined the features of an adventure story by using the ‘story mountain’. We found out about the importance of a dilemma in an adventure story and how characters might change after they have solved their dilemma. Finally we made sure we could put a mixed up version of Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs in the correct order and finished by making our own class book - Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs by 3R and 3T. | Maths In math our focus has been on addition and subtraction. We started the week by trying to solve a problem, our learning facilitators had mixed up their friends money and we had to help them work out how much money each friend had given them. To solve this problem we had to use our number bonds to ten. Next we learnt games to practise our number bonds to ten. Have you played handy tens? We were so good our learning facilitators showed us some games to practise our bonds to 20! Finally, we ended by putting all the week's learning together and showed our understanding by solving addition and subtraction word problems. |
