This week in Milepost 2 we have all been learning as GEOGRAPHERS!
We have been learning all about different habitats around the world and how they have an effect of the plants and animals that live there, including humans.
Focusing on DESERTS, RAINFORESTS, TUNDRA and GRASSLANDS, we initially researched the features of these habitats and then worked with our teams to identify challenges to living in each of them. We also thought about whether we could personally live in any of these environments and about the personal goals we would need to use to be able to do so.
As part of our research, our learning facilitators allowed us to watch the amazing BBC Documentary called Human Planet. We loved it and got so much new learning from it!
To round off all of this learning, we were set the challenge of designing, and even advertising, a house that would be able to survive in one of these challenging habitats. How would we get water in the desert, what about keeping warm in the tundra, defending against the predators in the grasslands or keeping out the rain in the rainforest? Have a look at these designs; what do you think?
I know about how different habitats effect the people living there.
LITERACYIn Year 4 this week we have been using all of the learning we have done over the past two weeks to write a postcard about the wonders of the world. We needed to remember lots of information about the sights that we had 'visited', practise using different tenses correctly, include a range of sentence openers and even try to have complex sentences! Whew! It was lots to remember, but we did really well! In Year 3 we have carried on our learning about story writing that we started last week. We put everything together and have been working really hard to write complete stories all of our own! We feel really proud of the amazing pieces we have produced. | MATHSMaths in Year 4 has been all about using and applying what we have learned this year. Mr. Michael and Mr. Thabo have set us a number of different challenges, and have asked us to be THINKERS to see how well we can do at applying our learning. We have measured, multiplied, added and answered and even though it has been a bit tricky, we have enjoyed it. In Year 3 we have also been using and applying our learning this week as we have been working to solve problems. We began the week by recapping our written and mental methods of addition and subtraction before using these to help us solve problems relating to money! |
