In Year 7 this week we have been researching a range of philosophers who made theories about our solar system. Learners began by reflecting on what they already knew about our solar system and then explored whether each theory is accepted or not today. They then created timelines to show how the work of past philosophers has changed our understanding of the solar system.

In this unit on COLLABORATION, the learners have begun to investigate the Suffragette movement and how women around Britain had to work together to affect change for the better. They have started to develop their historical understanding of who the suffragettes were and how the methods they used to get the vote for women changed over time, by writing Point Evidence Explain paragraph for the first time. They developed their history skills by using historic sources to create a chronological timeline of events.
On Wednesday, we had our Middle Years Celebration of Learning. Families and learning facilitators joined us to watch wonderful presentations and performances which demonstrated learning that has been done in music, drama, science and PE. Thank you to those of you who joined us, and well done to all of our hardworking learners!
Year 7 teams are working in collaboration to create their very own radio broadcasts. The final broadcasts will include news reports, adverts, radio dramas and some music. By creating these, the learners are practising their skills of writing appropriately for different genres and expressing themselves with clarity.
This learning block we are learning how to use spreadsheets to analyse financial data from the perspective of a business owner. We are learning how to use different formulae and functions to make this process much easier. After we have arranged the data we then ask critical questions about our data, this enables us to identify trends and then we can change our prices accordingly.
Year 7 have been practising one of their key skills: accurately and confidently using mathematical equipment. They have been learning how to use compasses to draw circles, SSS triangles and angle and perpendicular bisectors. They have also been using a protractor to accurately draw SAS and ASA triangles. In keeping with the current unit on Collaboration, each table team took part in the Constructions and Bartering Challenge. They had to trade equipment and skills with each other to be able to draw accurate constructions to sell to the bank. All the learners enjoyed the challenge and were able to demonstrate their skills effectively.
Learners are creating a group grid painting by transferring artwork into a larger scale project. This method involves drawing a grid over a reference photo, and then reproducing this work on a larger gridded surface. Students work together to create a larger work using this method while practicing their painting skills.
