The Year 7 learners have been exploring the elements of art. They have been looking at art history and learning about famous works of art, as well as learning how to critique works of art. Learners have been focusing on developing their skills by critiquing art and reflecting on how they can grow as artists.

In Year 7 learners have worked collaboratively and have participated in a range of tasks including: reading, writing, listening and speaking. Our units were based on daily routines and situations, such as talking about actions, asking and answering questions about time and talking about our daily routines. The learners have familiarised themselves with a range of verbs and useful phrases. We have used multimedia techniques and presentations to record and assess learners’ progress. Throughout the last unit learners have acquired a range of basic skills in basketball such as passing, receiving, pivoting and shooting. They have improved their knowledge of the main rules of double dribble, travelling and foul and have developed a greater understanding of basic tactics including movement off the ball and man to man defence.
At the start of this unit on risk, the learners have begun to investigate natural disasters. They have started to develop an understanding of how the internal structure of the earth works and how this will create natural disasters such as volcanoes and earthquakes. This will enable the learners to develop their knowledge of why people live in areas that are at risk of natural disaster and what we do to reduce those risks. This week we have been doing our Exit Points for our first units. This is an opportunity for our learners to demonstrate their understanding about Adaptability- the Big Idea that they have based their learning around over the past 6 weeks.
Learners have been split into mixed year group teams and have been so supportive of each other, helping to tune and critique their teammates' work. Year 7 learners have embraced the challenges of this process and done some impressive deep thinking. We are looking forward to watching final presentations tomorrow. |
