Year 7 have been working in teams this week to create short dramas and poems about the risks and benefits of their choice of energy; chemical, electrical or magnetic. Learners wrote a risk assessment of electrical devices in their homes to prepare so that they could understand how hazards can leads to risks, which can be reduced through sensible precautions. I can’t wait to see their energetic performances!
The Year 7 learners have been developing their knowledge of the risks of living in an earthquake prone area. They have been investigating the effects of the Kobe earthquake in Japan, and why the effects were so bad. They will then explore how the Japanese government responded to these risks and what has been done to reduce these risks in modern Japan.
Learners explored graffiti and murals. They worked with their table teams to come up their own group mural. Learners experimented with media techniques while practising painting for their large scale work.
The Year 7 learners have been learning about music literacy during their music lessons. They have learned to read notes on the staff, and to recognise note values and simple time signatures.
Throughout the last unit learners have increased their water safety knowledge and have learned the basics of water polo. They have learned the laddered approach of water safety and have tried a variety of reach, throw and tow rescues. In water polo they have improved their passing, swimming with the ball and their knowledge of the rules. Through these activities learners have developed their understanding of water hazards and have increased their awareness of water safety.
Year 7 are delving deeper into their exploration of algebra. They have shown how brackets can be used to solve real life problems like ordering food and how to expand out brackets from algebraic expressions. The learners then completed a ‘Spot the Mistake’ activity where they addressed the common misconceptions of expanding brackets, simplifying expressions and multiplying algebraic terms.
