The Year 9 learners have been reflecting this week on their final residential trip to Kanchanaburi. It was certainly one to remember with much of the trip being centred around the Thailand to Burma railway built in WW2. The learners focused on the challenges faced by the POWs and migrant workers in building what many thought was an unbuildable railway. They visited the Death Railway Museum and Hellfire Pass which showed the conditions, disease and people that they had to endure. The learners also had an opportunity to partipcate in the Remembrance Day Service which they did with the utmost of respect. They learned so much about courage, challenge and resilience and what many people have sacrificed for their country. It led them to reflect on their own challenges and their future and were able to articulate their fears, hopes and dreams. The trip not only was a fantastic educational experience it also brought them closer together as a class and gave them an opportunity to take responsibility for many things and display a mature, confident and positive approach to their future. They were a pleasure to take away and this trip will not only stay with them for many years to come but with the teachers that facilitated it.
