This week we have been busy learning about Autumn. We looked at video clips and non-fiction books about activities people do in Autumn. We also looked at the weather patterns and leaves changing colours. In our tuff spot tray we had natural leaves and information books and we used a magnifying glass to look closely at the leaf patterns and the colours. In art and craft we made an autumn tree with toilet rolls and had fun making an autumn tree, printing with bottle tops. We also made a autumn wreath with natural leaves.
Literacy In phonics this week, we continued to explore rhyming words. We have also been practising tuning into different sounds we hear in our environment. We had fun making marks on leaves. | Maths In maths we have been practising arranging numbers from 1-10 using the Lego blocks and doing the structure game ‘line up‘. We also compared different sizes of leaves and measured them with cubes. |
This week we have been continuing our topic of SPACE by learning about day and night. We enjoyed looking at PowerPoints, songs, stories and pictures of day and night. We have been busy cutting and sticking day and night pictures and we drew what we see at these times. We thought about what our favourite planets are and drew them in our writing journals. We discussed what we can hear during the daytime and the night time and enjoyed listening to the story Night Monkey Day Monkey by Julia Donaldson.
What do you see during the daytime and what do you see during the night time?
In Literacy we have been looking at letter sounds /f/ and /r/ and have been finding out what objects begin with these letters. We are learning to segment and blend CVC words and have been using magnetic letters and boards to spell three letter words. Geraldine the giraffe has helped us with our letter sounds this week. We are learning tricky words /no/ and /go/ and are using these words verbally in sentences.
We have been practicing using wow words in sentences for Big Talk and we have been trying to read words in our guided reading lessons with the big books. We made rockets for our /r/ letter sound this week too!
Why do animals hibernate?
What might they do to prepare for hibernation?
