We enjoyed exploring iPAD's, playing puzzles, colouring pictures and playing phonics games and forming numbers.
This week in Reception we have been learning all about Halloween! We have been talking about why and how people celebrate Halloween. We had fun playing Halloween games including guessing from the shape of the shadow.
COME & PLAY DAY!
This week we continued with ‘Festivals and Celebrations’. We talked about Bonfire Night and why people in England celebrate it. We talked about the gunpowder plot. We played interactive games making fireworks with different colours. It was really exciting and full of fun. We enjoyed it thoroughly. We used cars to mix yellow, red and orange to make a fire and made our own colourful firework display by using the Paint program on the laptops during ICT time. We also used straws to blow liquid red paint to make fire, it was difficult but we really enjoyed it.
In math’s this week we learned about 3D shapes. We have worked in pairs on a treasure hunt for 3D shapes around the school. We took some photos with our ipad.
In phonics we have been learning the sounds 'g' and 'o' and the high frequency words 'in' and 'at'. We enjoyed the activity of finding these high frequency words in our story books and were rewarded with glittering stars. We also made amazing octopuses with 8 wriggling tentacles, when we were learning letter sound ‘o’.
I have been fantastic showing my communication skills when talking about being adaptable with learning facilitators and friends.
I have been great at working cooperatively with my friends and helping them with their work.
I have been showing a fantastic attitude to learning and always trying my best.

Story of the week
This week we have looked at Sharks through non-fiction books and video clips. We painted a big shark to decorate our role-play area. We also made shark hats. We played cooperative games to talk about under the sea and drew what's under the sea on the white boards.
This week we learned about Eid festival. We also discussed how muslems pray in a mosque. We made a picture of a Mosque against a starry night sky and added stars using gold and silver pencils. We continued making and painting Kala’s the koala’s friends like kangaroo, possum platypus. We had great fun playing with Kala during break time and during choosing time in Kala’s house in our class. We made sure Kala is well fed as we brought leaves for Kala from the garden during our snack and lunch break.
This week in our maths sessions we continued to learn to measure. We enjoyed doing many activities outdoors trying to guess which path is longest whether it was the straight one, curvy one or the wriggly one. It was great fun exploring our guesses!
Next week our talk topic is:
Films and books!
This week we have been listening to the story 'Rainbow fish. After listening to the story we talked about sharing and the importance of having friends.
We started a new topic called ‘Under the Sea’. We are learning about living things that are beneath seas and oceans. We have been focusing on sea animals through the ‘Rainbow Fish’ story. Over the coming weeks, we will dive deep down underwater and study the ocean life through slideshows, non-fiction books and role play! We are also going to strengthen our knowledge by discovering more sea creatures and plants as well.
In maths we have been making comparisons between quantities using coloured fish and other objects. We are already observing amounts and have been trying to categorise them using mathematical words such as ‘more’ and ‘a lot’. We're also working on measuring sea creatures tall-short, long-short and big-small. We have also been learning to count numbers 0-9 through games and songs.
In our phonics we have been revising sitting and listening skills as well as awareness of sounds in the environment.
This week we have been busy bees getting ready for our new friend Kala the Koala’s birthday party. We wrote invitations to our teachers and parents. We made chocolate crispies, cupcakes and popcorn. We made bunting with letter sounds and pictures with initial sounds, paper chains and party hats for the class decoration. We had a fantastic time celebrating Kala’s birthday and really enjoyed eating the yummy food and playing musical chairs with our friends and guests.
Next week our Talk Topic will be about 'ZOOS'. We will be sharing stories and songs about Zoo animals and some video clips on Zoos around the world.
