We have had a climactic climatic week here in Milepost 3! Our first focus in Weather and Climate is Geography.
This week we have been studying the different climate regions of Earth. We learned about everything from the Polar and Tundra to the Sub Saharan, Mediterranean, and of course the Tropical Rainforests!
In Task 2 we studied the climate of a particular country and then created a map of that country that would show the average temperature, rainfall, geographical features such as rivers forests, and mountains, as well as main cities. We also predicted the weather of some places in the country based on the climate.
Literacy Year 6 have been focussing on analysing the story of Demon Dentist. Over the week we had to draw inference from our knowledge and understanding of the book so far in order to complete the tasks, before completing an FBI undercover report on the “tooth thief’ and their crimes to date! Year 5 have been focussing on completing our learning about explanation texts, and improving our grammar and punctuation. We edited, improved, and published our explanation texts of our crazy contraptions that we designed the week earlier. The texts illustrate the features and show that we can write in the third person and use both time and causal connectives. In addition to explanation texts Year 5 have had some literacy lessons specifically on improving our grammar. We practised punctuation, plurals, sentence types, and using a dictionary. | Maths Year 6 this week have been focussing on number sequences and finding the nth term. We studied Pascals Triangle to begin with, noticing the different patterns within the triangle. Then we showed great resilience in finding out what the nth term was for different sequences. We made great progress in this during the week! Maths this week Year 5 have looked at graphs. We have been studying picture graphs, bar graphs, using tally’s, creating our own visual representations, and collecting accurate data to input into these. It has been a busy week! We learned about the best way to create the key for the graph and how to decide on the value for the key. |
