Learning Journey
This week Year 6 have been introduced to algebra. This was the first time year 6 have done any algebra so we started by gaining an understanding of how numbers can be used in maths. We then looked at simple formulae and describing linear patterns, before moving onto expressing missing number patterns algebraically. The children worked co operatively to solve this problem in one lesson. In Literacy we have read the story of Kekediourou and the Witch, a tale from West Africa. We brought the story to life by creating drama role plays of our favourite scenes. We then worked really hard to write our own recounts of the stories. We planned using story maps and then magpied key language from the text that would help to create the West African influence of the story. |
In maths this week Y5 have been looking at 3-dimensional objects. We have been studying their properties and learning about all the parts that make up a 3D object: Faces, edges, vertices, parallel and perpendicular lines. We created our own definitions of the properties, looked at specific objects to classify their properties, and even had a try at making our own 3D nets. In literacy Y5 have continued their study of the novel Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone. We have introduced it to Mr Phill, who had never read or watched any of the Harry Potter series, through an oral retelling of events so far. We continued to look for evidence of inference and attempted to look at the same event from the perspective of multiple characters |
