Learners are creating their own restaurant concept, logo, and menu. They have to use their own original ideas from start to finish and create their designs using Adobe.
In science, we have been learning about sound. The learners have been finding out how sound travels, how we hear sound and why we can’t hear sound in space. To demonstrate their understanding they have had to work collaboratively to produce a poster or presentation. They were given the option of investigating a piece of technology that has advanced the human ability to hear, or to design an improved ear to enhance human hearing. We will now move on to the properties of light.
Years 7, 8 and 9 are now using Edmodo which is an educational website that takes the ideas of a social network and refines them and makes it appropriate for a classroom. Using Edmodo, students and teachers can reach out to one another and connect by sharing ideas, problems, and helpful tips. Eventually we will be inviting parents to take part in this online learning environment.
Year 8 are concentrating on improving their movie editing skills to better prepare them for their exit points. Similarly to year 7 and 9, they are choosing their own software for this task. This will allow them to work with software they are comfortable and more confident in.
Year 8 have been reading ‘Lord of the Flies’ and using it as a stimulus to write their own openings to stories. They have been focusing on developing their descriptions of settings and characters and using literary devices.
