Year 8 Students had an exciting time in their final task for their Relationship unit. Students were Entrepreneurs, Graphic Designers, Interior Decorators and Culinary Artists! They imagined, created, designed and presented their ideas for restaurants to a panel of judges. They created a dish from their original menu and awed the judges.

In Spanish, Year 8 learners have been practising and consolidating conversational speaking, with a focus on social situations such as shopping, products, and exchanging personal information; talking about their likes and dislikes. In particular, learners have been developing their knowledge and skills by using a range of techniques, including the use of multimedia to record and assess their work. They have made a step up by using a range of pronouns and verb conjugations. At the beginning of this unit on Tradition the learners have been focusing on tourism and the things that attract people to different locations around the world. They created their own survey to see what their class would be most attracted to and drew graphs to represent this information. This will lead to the learners developing an understanding of the impacts tourists have on local cultures and traditions of tourist locations.
As they developed their skills in basketball, learners have explored the ways in which an individual’s and a team’s performance is affected by everything that happens on the court. They have researched the ways in which an individual and team’s actions can affect the team that they are playing against. They focused on developing their ability to anticipate and react to another team’s attack. To work out how the other team’s actions are likely to affect their own, and to adapt accordingly. In doing this they created a coaching manual, helping them to record their learning throughout each task, including detailed analysis of each play and contingencies for different defences. The manual served as a tool for them to coach during the games.
This week we have been doing our Exit Points for our first units. This is an opportunity for our learners to demonstrate their understanding about Relationship- the Big Idea that they have based their learning around over the past 6 weeks.
Learners have been split into mixed year group teams and have been so supportive of each other, helping to tune and critique their teammates' work. We are looking forward to watching final presentations and movies tomorrow. |
