Year 9 launched into their 4th unit of work this year with an entry point involving guest speakers. Our unit entitled Development requires them to consider the Big Idea that 'Long lasting change takes place slowly over time'. We invited professionals in who work in 3 different areas of development in Cambodia and we learnt about the aims and objectives of each sphere of work. We also learnt what progress has been made against targets and considered any barriers to progress.
We contemplated if long lasting change is always positive, especially with respect to the environment.
Our guest speakers were:
Ms. Ros Sopheap, Executive Director of Gender and Development Cambodia (GADC), works in cooperation with the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) and members of civil society organisations to advocate for gender sensitive programmes, national laws and policies formulation in Cambodia. You can view their programmes and work here: www.gadc.org.kh
Ms. Catherine Breen Kamkong, Deputy Representative from the UN Populations Fund, who has extensive global experience working in health development and womens’ and girls’ rights. UNFPA supports the Royal Government of Cambodia and non-governmental organizations to identify, recognise and address population issues, and has strongly pursued reproductive rights and gender equality as essential elements to achieve human rights and human dignity. http://countryoffice.unfpa.org/cambodia
Ms Liza-Maria Broomfield works as a consultant in the field of environmental protection, pollution and conservation with 'change taking place over time' and development.
