Year 8 learners are really enjoying and learning a lot from their reading of Holes. We have been making a class storyboard of events as we read along and we have been discussing the traits of the characters and our predictions for the story. As the learners read more of this exciting novel we are going to explore our Big Idea more and see if a curse that we have read about in the book does affect other things, as our learners have predicted.

Humanities
The Year 8’s have been working on the causes and effects of earthquakes in richer and poorer countries. They have been beginning to think about how the primary effects of earthquakes can have knock on effects for the people whose lives are impacted by earthquakes, and if these effects vary depending on the level of development of a country. They have been working collaboratively with their shoulder partner to create a case study of the earthquake that hit Haiti in 2010. This will enable them in future lessons to investigate if the effects of an earthquake will change depending on where a person lives, and how we can plan and reduce those effects by limiting the causes of problems of an earthquake.

Now we are starting the most exciting part of the stop motion project, where the learners are going to edit all the scenes and include their voices from the dialogues created for the script. At the same time they have started to create a booklet to talk about each scene, in this booklet any learner at school will be able to learn new vocabulary or sentences used in the script. They are working very hard to create this resources and now is time to turn on the microphones and bring their Spanish pronunciation to the clip!
