We have begun our new class novel: Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. We have started to think about how an author uses inference to give us clues about what might happen in the story and to help us gain a clear picture of the characters. We have been hunting for evidence in the text (detective style) to support our character profiles, which we will continue to add to as the story progresses.
Year 6 Literacy This week we have had a reading focus in Year 6. We have concluded our novel Floodland and have had good fun re-writing chapters from different characters points of view. We have also practised finding inference in pieces of writing and discussing author’s uses of different words and the effects they have on us as readers. | Year 5 Maths This week we have been attempting some tricky reflections and rotations using a mirror line and axis. We have created our own patterns and had a go at reflecting and rotating these in different ways, using vertical, horizontal and diagonal lines. Some of these have been really complicated and required lots of perseverance and careful measuring. |
Year 6 Maths We have been looking at the data handling cycle this week during maths. We have been creating our own pie charts and creating questions for our partners to solve, which involved a lot of higher order thinking! This also allowed us to revise our percentage and fractions skills at the same time. We then moved onto interpreting information from line charts, explored the concept of proportion and answered difficult questions which really stretched our understanding. |
