Learning Journey Exit Point
On Thursday afternoon we welcomed families, Learning Facilitators and anyone else who was interested, into our classrooms. It was wonderful to be able to communicate everything that we have learnt and demonstrate this in various ways. Well done Milepost 3 on a fantastic job!
What has been happening in Year 6?
This week in Literacy we have continued to read 'Demon Dentist' by David Walliams. We have focused on writing descriptions for different characters in the story including Alfie, his dad and Raj the newsagent. In our descriptions we used similes and metaphors to help our readers really imagine these characters. Character descriptions can be difficult to write as you have to make the writing as vivid as possible. To do this we brought our characters to life during a drama lesson with Ms. Philippa. It was so much fun using our acting skills as well as developing our understanding of how these different characters behave. | This week in maths we have been continuing to practise using the four operations with fractions. We can now add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions. In order to do this we need a secure knowledge of our multiplication facts as often you need to simplify fractions or recognise the LCF between denominators. For dividing fractions we took part in a treasure hunt! This was lots of fun and involved some of us spending alot of time looking for the clue that was hidden on the hanging poster! We finished off the week by consolidating our understanding. We created posters that explained step by step how to add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions. |
What's been happening in Year 5?
We have been having lots of fun in Literacy this week! We have focused on writing explanation texts. Initially we consolidated our knowledge of the different features of an explanation text. We then watched a clip of 'Wallace and Gromit's' cracking contraptions with the view to designing our own contraptions! We designed a blue print for our contraption and then demonstrated our understanding by writing an explanation text to support how it works. Watch the episode below again. How would you explain to someone how to use Wallace and Gromit's contraption? TALK TOPIC | In maths this week we have been looking at decimals and trying to develop our understanding of how to order them according to value. To do this we have had to make sure we have a secure knowledge of place value. We then moved onto fractions. Just like Year 6 we have been looking at adding and subtracting fractions as well as converting improper fractions to a mixed number. To complete all these maths tasks we had to follow a series of tasks. Watch the video below to start thinking about how you would divide fractions! This song is VERY catchy, you have been warned! |
