Visit to Aziza School
(between nature and us, Cambodia and England.)
Last Friday 6R went to visit Aziza school in a building known as the White Building which is near iCAN. Our aim was to collaborate with the learners to make a piece of art. The students we worked with were aged 8-13. We collaborated to create amazing stencils about nature, for example of flowers, snowflakes etc.
To introduce ourselves we did some day openers like stand up, pair up. For the next opener, Ms. Beverly had some pictures of animals and we chose our favourite and played a game like fruit salad which helped us get to know each other better.
After the opener we had to pair up with an Aziza student, and quickly Ms. Becky and Ms. Beverly started to explain to us about the project. Then we started with our nature stencils. Before we got started doing the real stencils, we did some practice rounds by cutting circles, squares and triangles with the craft knife. 6R guided the Aziza students how to use a craft knife and how to be safe with it.
Everyone started by sketching something related to nature and used the craft knife to cut our stencils, while Ms.Beverly got ready with our second piece of art. The second piece of art was sticking pieces of jigsaw puzzles to a sketch of a lotus flower that Ms. Becky prepared for us. We used jigsaw puzzles to show the connectivity of Cambodia and England.
It was a fun time making art with the Aziza students and we are all excited for when the Aziza students come to our school, iCAN, next week.

We concluded history with the making of our ancient home shopping shows; and moved into society this week in our penultimate week of Going Global. We discussed the difference between needs and wants. We listed all of ours and then compared them to children’s from different countries. We looked at the big issues like: Do we, as citizens of Cambodia, have a responsibility to help those in need here?
This week we have begun history by researching what ancient civilizations used to trade with. Once we had enough information, we began to film a “TV home shopping network” for ancient civilisations. Want to know what the ancient Egyptians thought were amazing fashion accessories? Or how much a Viking ling boat would set you back? Then check out our finished videos in next week’s blog!
Year 5 Literacy In literacy, we continued working with the globalisation theme as we created logos, slogans, and signage for our imaginary clothing brands. We thought of the lettering, the fonts, colours and clever word play like alliteration and onomatopoeia for our slogans. We also returned to poetry this week in Year 5. We looked at different types of poems and the tricks that poets use, such as using similes, metaphors and personification. We read a range of poems and began to structure our own using these techniques to bring them to life. Here's an example: | This is not a rubber Pearly white time machine, Changing the past Mistake canceller Removing errors you make Smooth, blank edges Shaded, black pencil marks Shallow, light holes Shedding its mistaken skin Drops it microscopic scars Faded, pale skin Teleporting through words and sentences This is not a rubber. |

We thought of the lettering, the fonts, colours and clever word play like alliteration and onomatopoeia for our slogans. We then looked at the persuasive language used in advertising of products and came up with our own writing, persuading our audience to buy our products.
Y5 Maths In maths this week we have been looking at prime, composite, squared, and cubed numbers! Fun fact: There are twenty five prime numbers between 1 and 100! And did you know that 1 is not a prime number? This one even tricked Mr Phill who was adamant that it was until multiple sites we found on google eventually convinced him otherwise. We created who am I clues for numbers using terms prime, composite, squared, and cubed. | Who am I? I am a composite number between 1 -100 I am a square number I am also a cube number The sum of my digits equal 10 |
In maths this week, Year 6 have been looking at finding the mean, mode and median of numbers. We had fun looking at all types of statistics and Mr Tom showed us how football clubs use mean mode and median to assist them in scouting players. We found out that the mean, median and mode are all different ways to find the average. To find the mean just add up all the numbers, then divide by how many numbers there are.
