Year 5
Year 5 applied many of the detailed descriptions Phil was using to influence their own writing in class. They looked for different ways to introduce interesting adjectives into their own work from the stories that they had heard earlier in the week. The learners also created eye-catching book jackets for one of the tales that they had listened to in Phil's workshop; creating both the illustrations on the front and the summary on the back. All the Year 5 learners worked feverishly to create a walk through space for the door decorating competition. Using We're Going on a Bear Hunt as inspiration, they recreated the journey of the story.
We have started our new unit Going Global with a flurry, in a fast paced trading game between iCAN countries. Learners traded their exports to try to achieve their import goals with neighbouring countries. With Team Leaders devising the strategy, traders scurrying about the trading floor chasing and trading commodities, and bankers keeping the books in the black, it was truly an experience enjoyed by all!
In maths this week Year 6 have been looking at translations and rotation of shapes after refreshing our knowledge of co-ordinates. In literacy we have started to look at different forms of poetry and had fun finding how rhyming patterns are used in song lyrics.
