Magic at Maths!
Year 5 have been continuing to consolidate their conversion skills. They have been using their skills of multiplying and dividing in 10s, 100s and 1000s to convert units of weight, volume and length. They then put these skills to practise again when creating our huge class timelines in our history learning! Amazing!
Year 6 have been working hard on their reasoning skills. They have been learning to clearly explain WHY something is the answer. These deepening skills in reasoning show a developing understanding in all of our Year 6 learners. Fantastic! |
Historical Research
This week we began our learning by considering chronological order. We created HUGE class timelines, to scale, going from 5000BCE to the present day (2016CE). Then we added the Khmer Empire to our timeline and added in the main events from this period in history. Following our learning on the Khmer Empire we continued to consolidate the same skills through learning about the civilisation or historical event that we have chosen to focus on during this unit. We then added these periods and the main events that happened in them, to our whole class timeline!
Next we had a historical visitor from the past. Lady Penh came to visit and we asked her questions which allowed us to build up a better picture of why they are important to the history of Cambodia. Then, we considered important historical figures from our own civilisations or events. Researched them and considered the impact that they had had. What a start to a great unit and what a week of amazing learning! Go MP3! |
Literacy Learning
This week Year 6 have been putting all of their writing skills to practise! They began by looking at different books that would be suitable for Year 2 learners. They considered what the main characteristics and needs would be. Then, using these ideas, they began to plan their own books, suitable for the Year 2s! Over the course of the next few weeks we will be writing, editing, illustrating and publishing these, ready to share with the Year 2s when they are completed!
Year 5 have been developing their oral story retelling skills. They began by window paining the story of Medusa. Then, using this, they recorded themselves retelling this story over the top of an animation. This is quite tricky - they needed to match their voice over to the animation as it happened! Great resilience Year 5! |
