IPC
Friday brought a lot of excitement! We had reached the end of Brainwave unit and it was time for our exit point. Using what we had learnt, we needed to find 20 statements about the brain and decide whether they were true or false, sticking them on giant brains. MP2 really showed great knowledge, skills and understanding of this unit.
Next week, we will be having our entry point for our next unit. I wonder what it will be…?
Year 4
MathsIn maths, Year 4 have been practising rounding numbers to the nearest 10 and 100. At the beginning of the week, we were unsure what this meant, but after a lot of practise with Ms Gemma, Ms Abbey and Ms Becky, we got the hang of it. Some of us started to enquire, "But when would this be useful?'' Then we realised...when we go to the ATM of course! We helped our learning facilitators to take out enough money to buy the items they needed by applying our rounding skills. By Friday, we could show our understanding when working with riddles. We had to consider all the steps in the riddle in order to reach a solution and round accurately. Year 4 would like to make it clear to people at home, that they are there to assist you the next time you go to the ATM! | LiteracyIn literacy this week, Year 4 have been looking at poetry. We read the poem, ’10 Things in a Wizard’s Pocket’ and identified great adjectives and expressive language to create reader interest. By practising using a thesaurus, we built up a bank of our own amazing adjectives which we then applied to our writing. As a class we wrote our own poem; ’10 Things in a Ghost’s Pocket’. Just as 4G performed finished performing their spooky poem, the lights mysteriously vanished! Next we worked on our own individual poems. Some of us thought about what might be in a robot’s pocket, an alien’s pocket or even a unicorn’s pocket! We now know what a possessive apostrophe is and can use it accurately, as we did in our titles. Year 4 worked incredibly hard on making our writing detailed, exciting and expressive. We hope our poetry is not too scary for you! |
Year 3
Maths | Literacy |
This week we focused on place value. We learnt about how important it is to know what each unit represents and how we can break apart numbers. We used blocks, popsicle sticks, pencils and lots of other things from our classroom to represent different numbers. Then we were given a word problem about the best two football players in the world - Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo! Next our learning facilitators chose two digit numbers for us and asked us to find out which ones were closest to each other and why. We had to use all our math skills, especially when they decided to give us three digit numbers as well! Finally we ended the week by thinking about the value of a number and how Mr Rupert’s football team should get to their game on Sunday. If they are travelling together, will they need a moto, car or a bus? What do you think is reasonable? | Literacy this week has been all about 10 Things Found in a Wizard’s Pocket! First we read the poem but our learning facilitators had covered up the title so we had to guess what the title of the poem was. Our guesses weren't very close but it made the poem even better when we discovered it was called 10 Things Found in a Wizard’s Pocket. We then decided to write a class poem called 10 Things Found in a Monster’s Pocket. We created a mindmap of all the things we could think of that might be in a monster's pocket and turned them into sentences for our poem. Finally we each wrote our own poems called '10 Things Found in an Alien’s Pocket'. We hope you enjoy our poems and don’t find them too gross! |
