Those of us in Year 1 have been finding the difference between two numbers by using and exploring a variety of strategies; taking away objects and pictures, counting back on a numberline and counting on from the smaller number (finding the difference). It has been a tricky skill to master but have enjoyed learning different strategies, now we can choose one which helps us learn best!
In maths this week Year 2 have been very busy practising our 2, 5 and 10 times tables! We used many different resources to firstly help us understand multiplication and then to help us remember our times tables. We have been playing lots of times tables games and have even produced some times table art to help us with our learning!
In Year 1 we have been learning to use alliteration! We practiced this skills using lots of our cooperative learning structures! We then felt ready to use alliteration to write sentences for an animal counting book we are making. We then drew animal pictures to accompany our sentences. We thought of some really funny sentences!
In Year 2 we have started a new unit on poetry. We started our week listening to lots of different toy poems, identified the poet, commented on the poem and finally performed poems! We practised this skill by firstly deciding what makes a great performance! Once we had set our criteria, in groups we added actions, sound effects and expressive voices to make an amazing performance! Our learning facilitators said we have been really great communicators when performing poems! We only had half the lesson to turn a poem into a performance, we think we did really well considering we only had a short time!
We have also been consolidating our understanding of rhyme this week. We identified rhyme and pattern in the toy poems we read, played lots of rhyming games and used our thinking skills to come up with rhymes for a route word!
Maybe you can practising your rhyming skills by playing this game?
