Family Learning Day!
Last Wednesday was such a great day; lots of families visited our classrooms and joined with the learning!
Thank you for making this day a success!
For the last part of our science learning in our unit about dark and light, the children learned about circuits. The children used wire with crocodile clips, light bulbs, batteries and switches. They know now how everything in a circuit should be connected, in order to make a light bulb light up. They showed their understanding by making their circuits more complex, gradually adding more batteries and light bulbs to their circuits.
In Year 1 the children started learning about division through sharing. We used a division board and pebbles to help us to solve division problems. You can see an example of their work above. The children also practised sharing equally when making bracelets and preparing a plate for a meal. Division is very new for our Year 1 learners so we will continue this learning next week.
In literacy we continued learning about nocturnal animals. Have a look at the below, which nocturnal animals can you spot?
In Year 2 we have been developing our grammar skills. We have been practising identifying different types of words and sentences. We used the story of Iggy Peck as a stimulus for problem-solving and worked cooperatively to answer questions relating to the story. In maths this week we have become more familiar with terms such as o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to in order to help us tell the time. We have even made our own clocks to support us!
