Learning Journey
All of us in MP1 have shown resilience and adaptability throughout this unit of work. We learned a huge amount of knowledge which we would love to share with you at home - please ask us!
To help us celebrate the end of this fantastic unit, we took a trip to Dreaming Garden for our exit point. We had a fantastic time on our trip!
We used all of our new knowledge to identify different insects and flowers and used our understanding when discussing the different species we found.
We were able to tell our learning facilitators some of the special jobs the insects we were doing!
We were fabulous thinkers and artists too! We found many different materials and created beautiful pieces of art. We made insects and flowers using twigs, leaves, petals and much much more!
It really has been a fabulous unit, we have all been so enthusiastic and engaged and can't believe had much we have learned!
MathsIn Year 1 we have learned to recall all the number bonds to 10. We shared 10 objects into two pots to find out all the different ways of making 10. We then played different games to practise recalling the number bonds quickly in our heads. Some of us went on to working out number bonds to 20 and beyond. At the end of the week we went on a math trail where we worked in groups on exciting challenges all around the school. We measured different objects using blocks and centimeter rulers and we made and found lots of different 2-d and 3-d shapes. It was lots of fun! In Year 2 we have been resilient practicing our 2 and 10 times tables we listened to lots of times tables songs and played lots of times tables games to help us remember them. Why don't you see how many of them we can remember? MATHS DAY This Friday was MATHS DAY! We spent the day using and applying our maths skills in a real life context. Our learning facilitators thought we were amazing thinkers and cooperating tremendously well when solving maths problems on our maths trail. The maths trail led us around the school, measuring, counting, identifying and problem solving. We had so much fun whilst learning in a very hands on way! | LiteracyThis week in Year 1 we have been looking closely at different features of patterned poetry eg. Alliteration, repeated language, similes and rhyme and used these to create our own shape poems. Our poems were based on different insects and they are really great! We remembered to use so many of the patterned features we had learned about! This week in Year 2 we have been writing fantastic insect poems! We began our week learning about onomatopoeia. We were really great thinkers and after listening to 'Mr Brown Can Moo, Can you?' we came up with lots of onomatopoeia words to describe various insects! We then consolidated our understanding of similes. We learned about similes in Year 1 but needed time to remember and understand how and why poets use similes. We made up silly similes about our friends and then created our own amazing similes to describe different insects. Finally we put all of our new knowledge and skills together and wrote our own insects poems using similes and onomatopoeia! We are really proud of our learning this week! |
