Have you heard about any natural disasters in the news recently?
This week we have been learning all about living things. We started by sorting a variety of objects into different groups; alive, once alive, never alive. We also looked at different life cycles e.g. insects, animals and plants. To help understand how plants grow we set up our own investigation for growing our own plant. We will keep observing how the plant grows and will record our findings using photographs and diagrams.
Year 1 In LITERACY we started a non-fiction unit. We looked at the features of non-fiction books, for example non-fiction books have a contents page and headings and a glossary. We learnt all these new words, because we will be making our own non-fiction books next week! But first we need to do some investigations! In MATHS we have been learning addition. We have been learning our number bonds to 10 and 20. We have also been doing number line work concentrating on bouncing along the number line to arrive at the correct answer. | Year 2 In LITERACY we have begun reading a new text this week called Lila and the Secret of Rain. We have talked about the importance of rain and the consequences in countries where it doesn't rain enough. We have predicted and used adjectives to write what we think is going to happen in the story. In MATHS we have been drawing and measuring the length of different shapes, lines and objects using mm, cm and m. It was quite tricky at first but we were very resilient and started to get the hang of it. We even did some estimating and tried to choose the appropriate equipment to help us in our measurements e.g. ruler, metre stick or tape measure. We had to remember to start at 0 and look very carefully at the units of measure. |
