We loved exploring this website!

MathsThose of us in Year 1 have been using pairs to add to 10 and used pairs to ten to help us bridge ten. We did this when adding and then when subtracting and used visual supports to help us with this skill. We sorted calculations according to whether they will bridge ten or not. In year 2 we have been busy thinking about how our knowledge of the 2 times tables can help us with the skill of doubling and halving. We consolidated our 2 times tables through lots of interactive games. We then applied this to doubling and halving questions. We now know that when we double we are multiplying by 2 and when we halve we divide by 2. We made sure we could apply our knowledge and skills by playing lots of doubling and halving games! | LiteracyIn Year 1 we have been very bossy this week - writing instructions. First we looked at the different features instructions need e.g. numbers, time connectives, bossy verbs and adverbs. These features then helped us sequence a set of instructions. Next we followed a recipe using the instructions to help us make pancakes (they were even better than Mama Panya's pancakes). Yummy! Finally we wrote our own instructions using all the features we had looked at over the week. Those of us in Year 2 have been focusing on questioning this week. We returned to the front cover of Mama Panya´s Pancakes and realised there were many unanswered questions. We shared our questions and then learned how we could create more detailed questions using nouns and adjectives. Question like "What is she holding?" changed to "What is the girl in the royal blue, patterned dress holding in her hands?" which then changed to "What is the girl with the braided hair, wearing the royal blue patterned dress, holding on the large, white dish?" We created many wonderful detailed questions! |
