COME AND PLAY DAY and Reception for Family Learning Day! It was great to see so many families joining in with their child's learning.
Learning Journey This week we have continued to explore Transport. We have been using our knowledge and skills to learn more about WATER transport. We made paper boats and decorated and sailed the boats in our imaginary water tray. We made a whole class boat out of big card using paint fingerprints. We also made a 3D sailing boat and created our own sea scene on a paper plate. To extend our knowledge of water transport, we have been looking at non-fiction video clips and books.

We have also been practising segmenting three letter words and listening to the initial sounds in words. iCAN PLAY learners have been practising to discriminate between sounds they hear and Identify the animals and imitate the sounds. | Maths This week in maths we have been practising ordering the numbers 0-9 and counting from 1-20. We have been learning to add 2 digit numbers through number rhymes and songs. We have enjoyed recognising and matching numbers to quantities, through structured cooperative games. We have also been learning to recognise some common 2D shapes through vehicles around the world. |
Learning Journey This week the hungry carnivore T-Rex entered reception. The learners enjoyed the baby T-Rex song, making pop-out T-Rex cards and building a large T-Rex skeleton. Lots of role play and small world dinosaur play has been happening this week and it has been a noisy affair. We also looked at the job of a paleontologist and all the things they might need to bring to a dig. The learners practised this job by opening dinosaur fossil eggs and digging for dinosaur bones.
Our dinosaur friends have been helping this week with our maths. We used different sizes of dinosaurs to measure the length and make a graph from longest to shortest. Following on from this, the learners were given different size teeth and asked to use cubes to measure how long they were. We then plotted these on a graph from longest to shortest. The learners enjoyed exploring weight by playing with the weighing scales and weighing different classroom materials. They also continued to build their confidence with addition and subtraction.
In phonics all learners are making great progress in their reading and some are starting to write their own sentences by decoding words using their phonics knowledge.
