The Learners in Early Years were absolute sports stars and were brilliant at showing the fantastic skills that they had been learning in PE. The learners also truly showed their resilience and cooperation skills during the events. It was great to see so many families come along to cheer for the teams. Thank you for your support.
In maths we have been practising arranging numbers from 1-10 using the Lego blocks and doing the structure game ‘line up‘. We also compared different sizes of leaves and measured them with cubes.
In phonics this week, we continued to explore rhyming words. We have also been practising tuning into different sounds we hear in our environment. We had fun making marks on leaves.
Red with black spots has been the theme for this week- that's right, Ladybirds. These small, colorful beetles have led to many fun activities such as making rock ladybirds, potato stamping, ladybird spot counting and much more. The learners are still enjoying the campsite and the tent has become a class favorite. We have also been looking at the science part of ladybirds such as their life circle, body parts and how they protect themselves from being eaten. This week the learners enjoyed building houses out of Lego, learning about caring for minibeasts , what to do when you get lost and stranger danger.
This week we have been assessing the learners on their phonics knowledge and skills, We separated them into three groups. This will help us support the needs of each group and ensure the learners feel confident in all areas of phonics. The areas they will be covering are new sounds like j and v, blending skills and sounds set 1/2 (s,a,t,i,p,n,m,o,g,d,ck)
This week the learners have been looking at one more- the first steps in addition. They have been given a set numbers and asked to find one more. such as 4 cubes, add one more, now you have 5 cubes. They have been exploring this idea using different materials such as human bodies, fingers, pens, cubes and bears. They will continue to work on this next week before learning addition with a variety of numbers.
